5 Ways to Clean the Air in Your Home

When you talk about cleaning the air in your home what does that actually mean? There are a lot of misconceptions about indoor air pollution, its affects and how to get rid of it.

THE MAIN THING YOU NEED TO REMEMBER IS NEGATIVE IONS = LIFE!!!

Here's the how and what of it:
"negative ions clear the air of mold spores, pollen, pet dander, odors, cigarette smoke, bacteria, viruses, dust and other hazardous airborne particles. They do this by attaching to these positively charged particles in large numbers. This causes the germs, mold, pollen and other allergens to become too heavy to stay airborne. At this point they drop to the floor or attach to a nearby surface. This removes them from the air you breathe and prevents them from causing respiratory problems and other health issues."

Negative ions also physically make us feel better because they increase our capabilities of absorbing oxygen...& lets be real...OXYGEN (very literally) = LIFE

Most of our homes and workplaces are closed off from natural sources of negative ions. Plus if you live in a landlocked state that keeps you from regular visits to the beach, or a city with more concrete than waterfalls...you gotta make it happen fo' yo'self!

MAIN POINT? GET AS MUCH STUFF IN YO' HOUSE THAT RELEASE NEGATIVE IONS.

5 (EASY!) WAYS TO CLEAN THE AIR IN YOUR HOME:

1. HIMALAYAN SALT LAMPS:

Not only are the lamps beautiful & bring extra coziness to any room or office, they clean the air! The salt absorbs water and positive ions (which aren't so positive). Then when the lamp is heated by the bulb in the lamp it releases the cleansed water into your air. I LOVE these! Almost every room in my house has one!
Check out this article to make sure your Himalayan Salt Lamp isn't a fake!

2. BEESWAX CANDLES

Beeswax is the only wax that actually cleans the air. It's this amazing God-given eax that takes care of us, the bees, and the environment. Beeswax releases negative ions when burned. My family only burns beeswax candles but that's a different blog post. Make sure your beeswax candles are genuine (sadly there are a lot of fakes). 2 good signs your beeswax candles aren't real is if 1. they don't smell like honey & 2. if they're cheap.

3. PLANTS

"Indoor plants remove pollutants from the air by absorbing gases through their leaves and roots. The microorganisms that live in the soil of potted plants also play an instrumental role in neutralizing VOCs and other pollutants.

While most leafy plants are adept at purifying indoor air, some of the plants that scientists have found most useful in removing VOCs include Japanese royal ferns, spider plants, Boston ferns, purple waffle plants, English ivy, areca palms, golden pothos, aloe vera, snake plants and peace lilies." (www.livescience.com)

So go get you some plants & become an ever-so-popular Plant Lady...really it's in!

4. BAMBOO CHARCOAL

Charcoal has long been used to purify our water, our digestion and even our skin. Why not use it to purify our air as well?  The porous structure of the charcoal helps remove bacteria, harmful pollutants and allergens from the air and absorbs moisture ( a lot like the himalayan salt lamps). This preventing mold and mildew by trapping the impurities inside each pore. It can also rid odor from the air without adding toxins like most odor-eliminating products on the market (cough- febreze -cough).  Make charcoal bags yourself out of  linen bags filled with bamboo charcoal or buy them here.

5. AMETHYST & TOURMALINE

These Gemstones have been said (some believe it, some don't. Try it your self and see!) to release negative ions as well. Some agree, some don't so like most things in life just try them out and see how they work for your body/home. Either way they are beautiful in jewelry or as a broken piece on a coffee table. Again with these there are a lot of fakes so do your research and make sure yours are naturally occurring.
